distortion is a series of pigment prints on paper that explores the concept of distortion. the work was created by using parallel line patterns as a starting point. these were moved during the scanning process on a flatbed scanner. this movement resulted in a distortion of the image and the scanner interpreted parts of the image as coloured resolutions of the black lines, as the image was scanned in rgb mode.

the creative process behind distortion is strongly linked to the characteristics of the scanner, the scanning process, the scanning mode and the movement of the image. the works created in this series are an investigation into the interaction between reality and image and the question of whether the image is always a distortion of our reality.

this artistic approach encourages the viewer to reflect on the nature of reality, the perception of images and the possible distortion of images. distortion thus reflects profoundly on the relationship between image and reality and encourages a critical examination of these concepts.
