visual rhythm plays with an optical illusion. A black pattern of horizontal and vertical lines on white background covers the entire area of an interior space. As the visitor moves around in the space his eyes perceive the designs on the surfaces of the wall as vibrating fields causing an optical irritation. It appears as though the seemingly unified room moves and changes. This impression is enhanced by contrasting lighting with light sources of diverse wave lengths (colour temperature).

By acknowledging the eye's varying responses to a seemingly evenly lit space we obtain a metaphor for the subjectivity of visual experience that confronts us with the contradictory nature of the media systems and the assumption that everyone interprets things the same.
